Welcome to the One Idiot Tribe!

Dear Readers,

First of all I wish you a very Happy 74th Independence Day.

Hope you are staying safe and doing well in these uncertain times.

Welcome to the One Idiot Tribe. I am very happy to start my blog on this auspicious occasion of our Independence Day celebrations to create an Atmanirbhar Bharat by helping fellow Indians achieve financial freedom. This is my first blogpost and I am really excited to use this opportunity to tell what this blog is all about.

Every crisis presents an opportunity and this crisis has allowed me to start my blog under the title One Idiot (www.oneidiot.in), an idea germinating in my mind for quite sometime. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years back. The second best time is now. The best time to start a blog was 10 years back, the second-best time is now.

Many of you know the short film One Idiot has changed my life 10 years back. If you have still not watched the movie, pls watch it (click here), else you’ll be missing in a lot of good stuff. Before that, despite being a part of the investment management profession for 6 years, I still didn’t know how to make my money work for me. This movie was like the apple falling moment for Sir Issac Newton and it changed my perspective completely towards savings and investing.

Inspired by Swami Vivekananda ji’s quote on “Take up one idea” my one idea was to become One Idiot someday. In the movie, Bugs Uncle was a reel idiot but I wanted to become a real Idiot and when I met the director of the movie Mr Amole Gupte who directed Stanley ka Dabba and was a part of very successful Bollywood movie Taare Zameen Par, I told him one day I will show him my account statement of Rs 100 crs. I was so inspired by the idea that I made my visiting card look like one.

However, achieving Rs 100 crore was no small achievement. To make such a sum of money in 20 years i.e. before I turn 50 was quite an uphill task if not impossible. I need to invest Rs 4,00,000 in top-up SIP per month increasing @ 10% p.a (Rs 4,40,000 p.m next year and so on) and assuming an ambitious return of 15% p.a. was quite an ask.

Though I had no clue how I am going to achieve this target, I became firm and committed to myself, I am going to achieve this target before I turn 50 just the way Bugs Uncle did in the movie. I started with a small SIP of Rs 10,000 per month in Oct 2010 and kept on increasing the amount yearly and I am happy to share with you today my family’s monthly SIP is Rs 8,70,000 per month. I have 10 more years to go and I will keep increasing the SIP vigorously to achieve the target of Rs 100 crs by 2030 come what may.

Over the last 10 years, I have been investing in a disciplined way and this has truly changed my life. The biggest learning for me has been understanding the Power of Compounding which we will understand in detail in many other posts in the coming months & years and the mention of which you will find very frequently in many of my articles going forward.

You would have already subscribed to many personal finance blogs or must be regularly browsing similar articles either on the internet or on print media. So what is the purpose of yet another personal finance blog? Well, the only difference you may find is through this blog I would like to narrate my story and my journey of becoming One Idiot in the next 10 years. I would like to share my learnings, experiences, mistakes, my interactions with many other investors like you and much more.

Personal Finance is more Personal than Finance. I would like to use this platform to simplify a lot of complex stuff that the industry keeps throwing at us and to demystify age-old beliefs when it comes to money. I would also like to share a lot of good articles, videos, other blogs, podcasts, ebooks, upcoming webinars/seminars etc if I find those useful to you. Good ideas and learnings are meant to be shared with due respect to giving credit to the author. I would also like to share my opinion on various financial products or solutions that may come in the market so that you make an informed decision before investing your hard-earned money in it. Since I love technology, I will also share some amazing tech hacks from time to time that can make your life easier.

The mission behind www.oneidiot.in is to help individual investors become One Idiot by simplifying personal finance thereby making them empowered to make better financial decisions. The idea behind starting this blog is to create a tribe of One Idiots and in next 10 years, my vision is to inspire and create One Million One Idiots One at a time. A small step towards creating an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

This is no fixed format on how many times I will be writing in a week. Sometimes it can be 2-3 articles in a week or at times there may be none in a week. Since I want to share authentic ideas, I don’t want to write for the sake of writing.

I will also be grateful to you if you can share on what topics should I write so that it stays relevant to you.

If you also want to become One Idiot thereby achieving financial freedom, pls visit www.oneidiot.in where I have tried to share lot of learning resources to make your journey to becoming One Idiot much simpler or you are most welcome to mail me at gajendra@oneidiot.in

Thank you for reading and stay tuned for updates!

Wealthfully Yours

You display and practice a disciplined and determined approach to investing and saving with a sharp focus on your goal. By using your personal example through disclosure of your own portfolio, you practice what you preach.

We are the one who organised a talk on investment ( along with Dr Sachin Shah) in our Stimulus program in The Address on 20th July 2019. Let me see how I am able to get a fair return on my investment. But I may not be in the age group you are looking for

  7. I haven’t checked in here for some time because I thought it was getting boring, but the last few posts are good quality so I guess I will add you back to my daily bloglist. You deserve it my friend 🙂

  8. It’s awesome to go to see this website and reading the views of all friends concerning this post, while I am also keen of getting experience.

  9. I’ve been browsing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours.
It’s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made
good content as you did, the net will be a lot more useful than ever
